New Year’s Dirty Dog

Home / Foodism / New Year’s Dirty Dog

We get up early on New Year’s Day, go out to the Rose Parade in Pasadena, and have ourselves a “Dirty Dog”. The first culinary experience of the year begins on a make-shift grill/push cart with questionable sanitation and some serious food-safety issues. The Tijuana-style street food certainly can’t be legal, but that’s all part of the adventure.

After getting up so early, relying of copious amounts of coffee (sometimes with a bit of a hangover) and standing in the sun for 3 hours, you just need one of these gut bombs to make it home.

At this cart they are 3 for $10, we get them fully loaded, except for the mayonnaise, which has been sitting in the sun since we first walked by hours ago.
It’s everything I wanted it to be, the bacon wrapping is still crispy, the onions and peppers are soft and sweet, while the hotdog delivers an instant nitrate knock-to-the-head.
I ball up the paper, run the back of my hand over my greasy lips, and wipe my palms on my jeans. Happy New Year!
