Birthday Train Shirt

Home / Make / Sew / Birthday Train Shirt

My little guy was turning 2 and having a train party, and I wanted to make him a special train shirt.  I rummaged through a bag of hand-me-downs I had just been given and found this brown sweatshirt from the Baby Gap- PERFECT!

I LOVE doing this type of appliqué!  I learned when my daughter was little, doing just these sort of little projects.  The book “Sew Liberated” is very thorough in explaining all types of appliqué, with this book and through trail and error, I’ve taught myself quite a bit.

I sketched the design, picked through my bags of scrap fabric, used Steam-a-Seam to attach the fabric pieces to the sweatshirt, and then zig-zagged stitched around the edges of each piece of fabric.

Do I have to tell you how much he loves it?

Take a peek into my world of Eating, Gardening, Making and Mothering, authentically and with meaning. Thanks for visiting!
