Christmas Eve Crab

Home / Recipes / Family-Style / Christmas Eve Crab

Dungeness Crab for Christmas Eve dinner has been a family tradition for as long as I can remember.  And why not?  It’s local, fresh, and so-so-succulent and wonderful.  The commercial fisherman just started pulling it in last month and we are still in the early phases of crab-crazy!  Just after the Market opens, we’ll eat it quickly boiled, straight out of the water, there’s no time for anything fancy!  As the season drags on we can get more creative, but for now lets just crack and eat.

I was lucky enough to marry a man who loves it just as much as I do, and is really good at cleaning it!  The kids are fascinated and eager helpers, as well as veracious eaters.  I wish I could say I was when I was a kid, but I definitely went through a anti-crab phase in my pre-teens.  Grandma made us non-crabbers Christmas ravioli instead.  What was I thinking?!

Crab Helpers

This year my dad supplied the crab, while we served a light salad, garlic bread, local Sauvignon Blanc, and drawn butter. Simple and amazing.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

PS-I hope my friend, The Captain, will be dropping off a fresh catch soon (wink, wink).
